Day 2: Perth

Sunday 10 September 2023

This morning start your wildflowers experience with visits to locations around the Perth region where you will find the finest blooms. Whilst the slope, soils and ancient granite outcrops of the Darling Escarpment are traditionally the ideal habitat and location to view wildflowers, their abundance varies and is dependent on sunshine. Areas such as Wireless Park, Gingin and Toodyay are also prolific at various times. Your experienced driver/guide will help you identify rare and delicate wildflowers including renowned everlastings, orchids, red and green kangaroo paw, banksias, bottle brush and Western Australia’s most famous orange flowering Christmas trees. During the day at an opportune time, and hopefully close to gorgeous wildflowers, you will stop for a picnic lunch. This tour will highlight individual species and not carpets or fields of flowers, which you will find later on your trip travelling north. There will be ample time to identify and photograph flowers with many stops made along the way, returning to your hotel late this afternoon.

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch
Accommodation: DoubleTree by Hilton Perth Waterfront

Day 3: Perth - Geraldton

Monday 11 September 2023

An early start this morning as you leave Perth heading north with your first stop at Nambung National Park to view the mystical Pinnacles Desert. Discover the moon-like sandscape of these fascinating limestone formations. If time permits, you can also visit the Pinnacles Desert Discovery Centre to learn more about the Pinnacles and the cultural and natural heritage of the area. Continuing north, your next stop will be the Coalseam Conservation Park in Mingenew, the true heart and soul of wildflower country. This area is famous for its stunning carpets of multi-coloured everlastings. Following a picnic lunch in the Conservation Park, you will continue on to Mullewa, deep in the heart of wildflower country and home to the rare wreath flower. These flowers’ growth patterns are very mysterious with the colours varying each year from almost pure white, to pink, orange and red. This evening you will arrive in Geraldton for your overnight stay. Dinner tonight will be at a local restaurant.

Continuing north, you will reach the stunning Pink Lake, also known as Hutt Lagoon, and Port Gregory for a tour before continuing on towards Kalbarri and stopping at Red Bluff in time for lunch. After checking into your accommodation, you will have the remainder of the afternoon free before heading out for dinner at the new Kalbarri Skywalk. Following the cruise, you will return to town for lunch before heading south to the Kalbarri Coastal Walk. With walking trails along sandstone cliffs plunging more than 100 metres to the ocean, the walk gives you the opportunity to spot the coastal wildflowers around the area, while walking from Island Rock to Natural Bridge.
